Shoo Fly - How To Deal With Pesky Flies

Who loves flies?

Flies can be a major issue to some people and animals also. Fruit flies are problem that most fruit growers will need to deal with at one time or other and they cause an amazing amount of damage to our crops.

I posted an article on dealing with fruit flies recently which I hope everyone got to read as there are some really amazing remedies do eradicate the fruit fly or at least keep it at bay.

Sadly this got some negative responses from a person that believes that we should not kill a single fly. This person obviously does not depend on the production of fruits and vegetables to eat as fruit flies attack and decimate far more than just the odd banana or peach left on the bench or counter for too many days.

This time around, concerning those pesky flies, I came across this recent article written by Susan Higgins which deals with how we can deal with other types of flies that can at times become extremely troublesome not just for us but for our animals also.

For us here in Australia the fly season is just about to begin so hopefully this article will help to control and deal with what can be in plague proportions here. I was especially interested in the section here that deals with the issue of horse flies. These flies bite the horses and do in fact bite us as well, which is rather painful if a person has an allergic reaction.

Flies do have their place in the eco system without a doubt as they deal with dead animals in the wild and such, but at times we just need to change the balance of them for a variety of reasons all be it for health or wellbeing of ourselves and our animals.

Anyone that has had to deal with a sheep that has fly strike will know exactly what I mean. When our sheep are our food or our livelihood then the fly will loose every single time when a choice needs to be made on protecting our sheep or other livestock or the fly.

There is nothing pleasant whatsoever, for the sheep dies a horrific and extremely painful death because it has been eaten from the inside out by fly strike maggots.

Please use the link provided below to access the full article and see the remedies.

How do you deal with flies? Do you have an age old remedy for this problem?

If so then please tell us about them in the “Comments” section below. Thank you. We would love to learn more on all the natural ways we can deal with flies.

Summer is fly season. Whether you are trying to enjoy a day at the beach, a picnic at the park, or hitting the trails, biting flies can be a real nuisance. And while the best fly repellent is usually “the first frost,” most of us can’t wait that long. Here are some ideas for getting some relief from those pesky critters now when you need it.
Penny Repellent
Place a penny in a clear, zip top plastic bag filled almost to the top (about 3/4ths full) with water, seal it, and hang it from a branch or awning (where sunlight can hit it),  and where flies are plentiful. It is said that the light refraction caused by the sun hitting the water and the penny causes confusion for a fly’s complex eyes and they will steer clear of the area where the bag is hung.
