Spiced Orange Bars



Spiced Orange Bars
½ cup butter
¾ cup raw sugar
2 eggs
Grated zest of an orange
1 tablespoon of orange juice
1 ½ cups plain flour
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon mixed spice
¼  teaspoon ground ginger
¼  teaspoon ground cloves
¾ cup sultanas
¾ cup chopped walnuts

Cream butter and sugar until fluffy and pale in colour. Combine the eggs, orange zest and juice together and then beat into the creamed butter and sugar. Add all the dry ingredients and mix well. Add sultanas and walnuts. Spread the mixture into a greased slice tin and bake for 30 minutes at 180oC.  Cool on a cake rake for 10 minutes before cutting into either fingers or squares depending on you shape preference and ice with either an orange or lemon icing when cold.
