Planting Reminders for June and July 2015

Sorry this is a little late folks. Time has just shot away from me this month.  I have been sitting in my office thinking about planting and looking at my grape vines which are in dire need of pruning. I will tackle this task in the coming weeks as I want to take a few good cuttings and propagate them to increase my vine numbers in preparation for the big move when that can happen.

I will cover grape propagation later on but in the meantime:

Now is the time to get those brassicas planted out into the garden like the cabbages, broccoli, cauliflower, kale and Brussel sprouts etc. quick smart.

Brassicas will always grow better in the cooler times of the year and by planting them now in your gardens you will have some wonderful brassica crops to harvest come springtime.

Dig plenty of good compost into your soil before planting and remember to fertilise your plants regularly with a good homemade compost tea or liquid seaweed fertiliser to encourage healthy quick growing of all your vegetable plants.

A healthy plant is far less susceptible to pests and disease so it is well worth the effort you put in now.

If you live in an area where frosts may be occurring then make some simple cloches to put over your seedlings until the risk of frosts have passed. This will not only protect your young seedlings from the frosts but it will also speed up their growth by providing a warmer environment for the plants to grow in.
